01 Detroit Pistons: Paolo Banchero

Detroit Pistons: Paolo Banchero

Rob Kinnan-USA TODAY Sports1 / 30

School: Duke
Year: Freshman
Position: PF
Height/Weight: 6’10, 250 lbs

We had to move Banchero up from the No. 2 spot not because Chet Holmgren has underwhelmed, but because Banchero has just been that good. It also helped his cause that in their head-to-head matchup, Banchero was absolutely dominant in a first half that likely had many NBA evaluators on the edge of their seats. He’s a very powerful athlete with an advanced ability to create his own shot. Think Carmelo Anthony and Jayson Tatum.

02 Orlando Magic: Chet Holmgren

Orlando Magic: Chet Holmgren

Joe Rondone/The Commercial Appeal2 / 30

School: Gonzaga
Year: Freshman
Position: C
Height/Weight: 7’0, 195 lbs

Much of Holmgren’s draft stock is based on the progression many assumed he would take throughout the season. He’s been good to start, and there have been glimpses of his flashy potential, but he still needs some more development. A 7-foot unicorn will remain a tough pass with the top pick and he very well may ascend himself back to the top spot. Right now he’s just been more of a No. 2, or even a No. 3 option, behind Drew Timme and Julian Strawther on Gonzaga. He’s not been the game-changing versatile threat… yet.

03 New Orleans Pelicans: Jabari Smith

New Orleans Pelicans: Jabari Smith

John Reed-USA TODAY Sports3 / 30

Team: Auburn
Year: Freshman
Position: PF
Height/Weight: 6’10, 210 lbs

Smith may be this year’s version of Evan Mobley in that he may not wow you with his athleticism, but he’s a very smart, fundamentally sound player who is good at a lot of different things. That’s not to say he’s an identical player. Smith is proving to be a uniquely good outside shooter for his size, while also rebounding well and making plenty of plays out of the high post. His numbers this season so far are hard to argue with; he’s a big-time talent.

04 Houston Rockets: Jalen Duren

Houston Rockets: Jalen Duren

Joe Rondone / USA TODAY NETWORK4 / 30

Team: Memphis
Year: Freshman
Position: C
Height/Weight: 6’10, 230 lbs

Most college centers and programs are going to have trouble stopping Duren this season, much like teams had difficultly guarding Luka Garza based on his size and strength. Many mocks are split on where Duren will go due to him being a true center offensively without any range. Some have him a top-three prospect while others barely have him in the lottery. Reclassifying certainly played a part in this split decision, but there’s no denying his strength and NBA-ready frame.

05 Oklahoma City Thunder: Jaden Ivey

Oklahoma City Thunder: Jaden Ivey

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports5 / 30

Team: Purdue
Year: Sophomore
Position: SG
Height/Weight: 6’4, 200 lbs

Ivey had a strong freshman year and now appears to have earned a larger role in Purdue’s offense. He’s taking more shots, making them at a higher clip and putting up big numbers. Ivey’s strength and speed at the guard position really stand out at the college level.

06 San Antonio Spurs: Jaden Hardy

San Antonio Spurs: Jaden Hardy

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports6 / 30

Team: G-League Ignite
Age: 19
Position: SG
Height/Weight: 6’4, 190 lbs

Some recruiters heralded Hardy for his two-way skills that made him one of the top players of this draft class. However, his defensive ability has yet to be seen with the Ignite.

He’s not making an impact defensively and his shooting numbers aren’t good enough to make up for it. That said, it could very well be a case of him not needing to risk injury and effort for games where the results mean nothing for him. But still, it is concerning. And on offense, if he’s not coming off an off-ball screen or shooting a step-back jumper, there’s not my dynamism in his game to be the top-three pick he was once considered.

07 Sacramento Kings: Patrick Baldwin Jr.

Sacramento Kings: Patrick Baldwin Jr.

USA TODAY Sports Images7 / 30

Team: Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Year: Freshman
Position: SF/PF
Height/Weight: 6’9, 220 lbs

Patrick Baldwin Jr. is going to be working against himself all season by ensuring his averages and shooting percentages remain at an elite level. Any dip while playing at Milwaukee-Wisconsin and his draft stock will tumble. All signs point to him being just fine, but he has to be the best player on the floor every night.

08 Portland Trail Blazers: Dyson Daniels

Portland Trail Blazers: Dyson Daniels

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports8 / 30

Team: G-League Ignite
Age: 19 on draft day
Position: SG
Height/Weight: 6’6

The sample size continues to grow and Daniels continues to impress with the G-League Ignite. At 6-foot-6, he’s an interesting playmaker with size that has a knack for getting to the rim with ease. Defensively, his reach makes him an impactful contributor with nearly two steals and a block per game. If he could improve on his 3-point shooting, watch out. The rest looks like a complete package.

09 Indiana Pacers: Caleb Houstan

Indiana Pacers: Caleb Houstan

Andrea Melendez/The News-Press/USA Today9 / 30

Team: Michigan
Year: Freshman
Position: SF
Height/Weight: 6’8, 205 lbs

Houstan is off to a strong start shooting from the outside. He has good size for the three, but may be a better fit as a three/four combo at the next level similar to Otto Porter Jr. Houstan is a good passer with a solid feel for the game and the ability to see the floor.

10 Minnesota Timberwolves: A.J. Griffin

Minnesota Timberwolves: A.J. Griffin

USA Today via Imagn Content Services, LLC10 / 30

Team: Duke
Year: Freshman
Position: SF
Height/Weight: 6’6, 222 lbs

A knee injury prevented Griffin from participating in Duke’s preseason work and it has resulted to him riding on the Blue Devils’ bench to start the year. Everyone expected him to work himself back to the starting lineup and at worst a regular contributor, but he isn’t even a factor in non-blowouts. Until he’s getting regular minutes, it will be hard for him to prove to NBA draft evaluators what he can do.
